Notice And Reminder: I
will be publishing anything and everything that comes my way that relates to
kites. If you wish to communicate with me, and DO NOT want something used in the Kite Flyer, please indicate what
part of your E-mail is private. Otherwise, everything is fair
game.
This Sunday’s fly, 10/17/99,
will be held from approximately 12:00 noon, to 5:00pm at the Riverview Park
located south of the 202 highway on Dobson Rd. This park is on the west side of
Dobson about one half-mile south of 202.
The following Sunday Fly,
10/24/99, again held from about 12:00 noon to 5:00 PM, will be at the Chris
Schermann Park where we hope to get a better turnout to see how everybody likes
it. It has been reported that this park has some turbulence due to the houses
near by, but what park here in town doesn’t.
This park is located on the east side of Miller Road, and just south of
Roosevelt St., in Scottsdale. Miller runs north and south, midway between
Scottsdale and Hayden Roads, and Roosevelt is located one-half mile south of
McDowell Road. The park is directly adjacent to, and just west of, the
Indian Bend Wash/Park system. Parking can be found at the Yavapai
Elementary School just to the south of the field.
The first annual R66KC “One Sky
One World” (OSOW) fly was held at Jim Jennings Park and had a good showing. The
Fly’n Hawaiian brought the annual OSOW event to our attention this year, which
will be an annual event for the club in the future. This annual event is held
around the world to promote peace in the community, the world, and
environmental concerns, through the ancient pastime of kite flying. This event
is held the second Sunday of every October and is sort of a kite holiday!
For more information see: http://www.earthnet.net/~jpa/osow/index.html
Well the wind decided to give us a
variety of flying conditions which is better than was reported on ArFF (see
general information below), by several others around the valley. Roman had his
Isis in the air for most of the flying time. Jim had his Tramontana, Voodoo,
and his stack of Maxima's that he let everyone try out. Dennis and Ryan were
also in attendance along with Juan, Tom, Jane, their granddaughter Ashley, and
Bill Dines. Tom and Bill had their ProWrens (which they shared with several of
us), up in the air doing endless fades.
Roman even had a "no hands" fade with Tom's ProWren and his cell
phone weighing it down. It flew by itself for a good twenty seconds!
Seems like the good winds are
usually during the week and in the mornings. Should be cooler this weekend for
a recommended flying at Riverview. – Editorial By Roman (The Fly’n Hawaiian)
Trugillo – Edited by Gadget Man
Sunshine Acres Children’s Home
Charity Event – Currently being worked on. To be determined.
04/07-04/09/2000 - Kite Fest
2000 to benefit Homeward Bound. It will be at Del Webb's anthem this year,
and promises to be bigger and better than Kite Fest '99 was!!!! Lynn Trochelman
is on the planning committee again, and will be getting in touch with the local
flyboys and girls to recruit volunteers to help with a few things for this
year. Lynn will keep you posted as she gets more nailed down. Lynn can be
contacted at: flykites2@aol.com
05/12-05/14/2000 – Route 66 Kite Club Fly With Our Sister Club the
San Diego Kite Club (SDKC). Come
and tryout some really great winds with loads of fun for the whole family. Sea
World, Old Down, Seaport Village, Mission Bay, Mission beach, the ocean, shopping,
and a myriad of other things for the family to do. We will be joining the SDKC
at their Mission Bay Park for a Sister club fly on Saturday, with a night fly
on the beach Saturday evening. A Saturday evening barbecue will be promoted as
well. We would like to have everyone stay at the same hotel if possible for
easier logistics. The “Beach Cottages” hotel is on Mission Boulevard and right
on the beach for everyone’s enjoyment with lots of shops and restaurants within
easy walking distance. The rooms run from $80/night through $250/night for a
two-bedroom cottage. Jane and I have a
one-bedroom cottage that we all can congregate at, so my recommendation is the
cheaper rooms. Everyone should get
their reservations in early because this is a popular place. Hope to see you
all there!
09/22-09/24/2000 – Southern California Open in San Diego w/ the San
Diego Kite Club. More
information to follow when available. See the 05/12/2000 event for lodging
information.
10/08/2000 – One Sky One World (OSOW) Annual kite event for
world piece.
Other News:
It has also been pointed out that
every weekend having a fly day does not allow for much time in the Honey Dew department,
(honey could you do this, and honey could you do that). To this end, it has also been recommended
that official club flies be every other weekend. With people who want to, and
can afford the time, having get togethers every weekend. To this end, we will
be following this pattern, and the R66KC Kite Flyer Releases will also follow
this schedule.
1. The point has been made that a pizza and wings gathering after
flying on Sunday, is not conducive to going to work on Monday. The
recommendation is to move the Fly’s to Saturday. Please let me know what you
think of this? I tend to think that it is a good idea.
Old Questions That Still Need
Answering:
The following Questions Need
Answers From All Of You! Some of you
have responded, but we need all of you to respond, at least with a minimal of
info. Please Respond As Soon As Is Possible! Thanks
1. The question has arisen regarding the R66KC shirts. And that is
a good question. I need to know everyone’s shirt size. And I mean
everyone! You are not committing to buy
a shirt now, just sometime in the future. In order to get a break on the cost
of the shirts, I have to order quantity. If I order only ten shirts, the cost
is like $35 per shirt. If I can place an order for 25 to 30 shirts, the cost
drops to about $20 to $25. There are also two types of shirts, the standard
T-shirt in gray, or the Polo style shirt with a collar in light blue. Please
respond to me via E-mail at your earliest convenience, with three answers.
Which type of shirt, how many of each, and what sizes. If not interested at
all, I need to know that as well, and as soon as is possible. I personally have
two of each, and my wife has two of the T-shirts, (the polo shirts did not come
in small).
2.
One remaining issue is the format for the R66KC “Kite Flyer”. This is new, and
will be an ongoing improvement project. If you have any ideas or suggestions,
please forward them to me. I also need to know, desperately, whether or not you can receive and E-mail
attachment in MS-Word format. I would prefer to send the new Kite Flyer in this
format, so that I might attach a few pictures, with fonts and formatting etc.
This format would be the easiest. I can always attempt to strip off just the
text and send that via E-Mail, but would rather not have to go through the
hassle. If you can, or cannot, receive this format, please send me an E-mail
stating which format you can accept. I will keep a record of this, and attempt
to send the Kite Flyer in the format that you can handle. Please keep me posted
as to when this changes as well. You will find that the MS-Word format will be
a lot more enjoyable. Both versions will be distributed until the list can be
completed.
1. Jonathan Dellmar has posted that his new sewing
machine is up and running and the cutting table should be finished in the next
few weeks. Jon also wants input on the Route 66 banner? I have several ideas on
this, and Jon has suggested that he would like for all the club members to have
a chance to have some input on what it's gonna look like. Jon has several ideas
as well, so bring your thoughts on the banner to the next couple of flies for
review. All ideas are needed, and none
will be rejected.
2. Input for R66KC articles is always
appreciated and always needed. Please send all items for publication to Gadget
Man Manson at: thomas.m.manson@boeing.com.
Please include R66KC in the subject of any E-mails. If you find any information
relating to kiting, even rumors, please forward them. Information on new Arizona stores that have kites, places that
have kite building materials, new web sites, and especially humorous ideas for
“Inquiring Minds Want To Know”, etc., are all desperately needed.
Anyone wishing to publish his or her own articles or columns will gladly be
accepted. Used kites that anyone wishes to sell will also be published.
Remember, it takes more than a couple of people to make a club happen.
It
has been reported that our new club “Kite and Banner Maker”, Jon Dellmar, has
ulterior motives for his new sewing machine and fabric table. It has been
reported that he has a secret desire to have sex in the clouds. To this end he
is planning to create giant single line, sex puppet kites, that he plans on
flying in the next big storm front to see if he can make the clouds burst with
lightning. Keep an eye out when the next big thunder boomers come rolling in,
you may just get a glimpse of Jon’s handiwork.
From our Kite Festival Coordinator Lynn
Trochelman
Take care....
And, remember, if the wind sucks, you're flying backwards!!!

Used Kites For Sale And Lost Kite Listing:
Hello everybody.
Here is an update on the wayward kite saga. To date I have had two
inquiries on the kite that I found in my bag. Hugh McDowell and Bill
Dines are both missing kites. Neither one of their missing kites matches
that one that I found.
Everybody, please zip through your kite bags and check to see that the
kites in your bag are the ones that you should have. I know that for some
of us, that would be a major task, but take the time and pull a quick
inventory. Maybe you'll be the one who's kite is sitting in my bag.
Here is a list of missing or ownerless kites that I know of to date:
1) I still have the wayward kite. I want to get this kite back to
owner soon. E-mail me with a description. If its the one in my bag,
it's yours. I'll deliver it to your home at a time of your choosing if
you are in the valley. If you are out of town, I'll send it overnight to
you location by your choice of rapid delivery service at my expense.
2) Bill Dines is reporting that his Green Icon isn't in it's proper place
either.
3) Hugh McDowell is also reporting that he has a "reddish” two
line kite, with an asymmetrical graphics design, and perhaps a six-foot
wingspan? He reports that he is missing a "Futuristic kite"
that he bought from a guy in Kingman AZ" that isn't in his
bag.
Everybody, please be careful when you break down camp from a group
fly. A lot of the kites look the same when they are in their bags.
I feel bad that I have a chunk of somebody's hard earned money that's sitting
in my bag right now. And I would feel bad if I had a kite come up
missing. If you find something missing or out of place, e-mail me at: dellmar1@home.com.
I guess that I'll act as a clearinghouse for wayward kites.
Thanks,
Jonathan Dellmar
